A Note from Isabel von Rittberg

“In 2019, I decided that it was time to put our wall on wheels in order to bring our dance more easily to new locations, including schools, underprivileged neighborhoods, inner cities, small towns and places where people simply don’t have the same exposure to art. We purchased a school bus and started designing a structure to mount the wall to the side of it. Despite COVID, my mission has not changed. In fact, these times have made my vision and desire to connect with different communities even stronger. I believe the access to art should not be a privilege, but rather a right. This wall is designed to inspire connection and hope. Our bus is built to break down boundaries.”

The AscenDance bus fits perfectly within the new era of social distancing guidelines. Our bus wall sets up in less than an hour and comes with a lighting and sound system powered by our generator. If you would like us to bring our bus to you, please email us info@ascendanceproject.com

The AscenDance Bus was brought to life in 2020 premiering at the Boulder Arts Outdoors, a socially distant show in Boulder, CO followed by an evening performance at the Front Range Brewing Company in Lafayette, CO.

the process of building the AscenDance Bus

It was a challenge to engineer a climbing wall attached to the side of a school bus. We were lucky to be working with the incredible local welder, Tim Omspach (Vvolfy Metals), who helped design a system and weld a steel structure that would meet the requirements for our climbing wall. The biggest obstacle was to find a way to collapse the wall and still be able to drive the bus. Check out the entire process below!
